Maui

Type:
Wavetable
Chipset:
??
CD-ROM:
??
Street price:
??
OS/2 Drivers:
Unavailable (but MPU-401 driver may work)
Drivers from:
--
Comments:
I've received one report of success with the TB Maui and the MPU-401 drivers, though the individual reports having to boot OS/2, initialize the card using the provided DOS software, and reboot. (Presumably booting DOS first to initialize the card would also work.)

Monte Carlo

Type:
FM synthesis
Chipset:
OPTi 928
CD-ROM:
??
Street price:
??
OS/2 Drivers:
Available
Drivers from:
OS/2 ftp (uses opti928.zip or 929_v2.zip drivers)
Comments:
This board appears to be a typical OPTi 928 design.

Multisound

Type:
Wavetable
Chipset:

CD-ROM:

Street price:
Discontinued (?)
OS/2 Drivers:
None (?)
Drivers from:

Comments:
As far as I know, this is a discontinued model with no OS/2 support. One person has gotten the Windows drivers working under Win-OS/2, however. One or more of three things seems to have been necessary for this: (1) Removal of all Multisound programs from the boot drive; (2) installation of SoundBlaster 16 drivers to get Win-OS/2 settings notebook items for sound; and (3) have an EMMExclude statement in SYSTEM.INI and appropriate addresses for MEM_EXCLUDE in the OS/2 settings notebook for ProgMan (I'm assuming that this user launches Windows programs via the Windows Program Manager).

Tropez

Type:
Wavetable
Chipset:
ICS WaveFront (2115), others
CD-ROM:
??
Street price:
??
OS/2 Drivers:
Under development
Drivers from:
ftp-os2.nmsu.edu
Comments:
In theory, this board can be made to work with a hodge-podge of drivers. IBM has released an ICS2115 driver to support MIDI with this board, and used in conjunction with CS4231 drivers for digital audio, should work with OS/2. To do this, install the CS4231 driver first, but without any MIDI support (OPL3 or MPU-401). You may also want to use the OPTi MAD16 initialization driver rather than the CS CWCONFIG driver; I've seen some reports of this working well, but others of it conflicting with the ability of the ICS2115 drivers to find the hardware. Then install the ICS2115 drivers. The above recommendations come from Timur Tabi, OS/2 sound driver guru; and I've received one report of something similar working, though this person installed MPU-401 support and then manually hacked the installation of the ICS2115 driver to replace it. I've also seen reports of success with the opti928.zip driver for OPTi-based boards.

Tropez Plus

Type:
Wavetable (?)
Chipset:
Crystal Semiconductor 4232
CD-ROM:
??
Street price:
??
OS/2 Drivers:
Available
Drivers from:
OS/2 box, Crystal's web or ftp sites.
Comments:
I've seen reports that this board should work with the Crystal Semiconductor 4232 drivers included with OS/2 or available from CS, but I've not seen any reports of actual success. The one report I've seen indicates that the CS4232 drivers produce fine .WAV file playback, but no MIDI.
